Shin-Yabakei refers to the strip of land along the Mori-Yabakei road (Prefectural Road 28) from Yamautsuri to Kakura Pass. Hitome-Hakkei earns its name from the panoramic view it provides of the rocky peaks all around, and with traditional Japanese inns, hot springs, eateries, and tea houses lining the area, it is also the center of tourism in Shin-Yabakei.
