This is a stretching castle town that centers around the Mori encampment and is lined with samurai residences, while townhouses line the southern side. The scenes and atmosphere from that time period still live on vividly in the buildings and gardens. The town prospered as the center of Kusu District from the Meiji period to the beginning of the Showa era, and the chestnut bun that was first made as a souvenir for visitors of Rakanji Temple is still a popular food item today. Incidentally, this is also where Tayama Katai and Kosugi Hoan stayed when writing about their journey to Yabakei.
