With the headwaters of Yamakuni River nearby, rocks tumbling and rotating due to the river rapids have over the years sculpted countless potholes of various sizes across the floor of the gorge.

All four seasons have always breathed life into the scenery and made their presence known to those walking alongside the river, and in the still silence tell magical stories of the ancient past. The sheer beauty of form has earned the area the name of “The Takachiho Gorge of Yamakuni”.
