玖珠川にできた落差１０mの滝で、落ち口が三日月のように弧を描いていることから名付けられました。魚が溯れないため、魚返の滝という別名もあります。清原正高を追ってきた小松女院が身を投げたという悲恋伝説が残り、そばにある嵐山瀧神社で小松女院を祀っています。

This waterfall flows from the Kusu River down a drop of 32 feet (10 m). The crest is arched and resembles a crescent moon (“mikazuki” in Japanese), giving the waterfall its name. It is also known as Uogaeri no Taki, from the fact that the fish cannot swim upstream. Komatsu Nyoin is said to have jumped to her death here after having come looking for Kiyohara no Masataka in a tale of tragic love. She is now enshrined at the Arashiyama Taki Shrine next to the waterfall.
