This is the dwelling place of the diety of an ancient megalithic religion. In the past when the worship of mountains was widespread, Shinto kagura dances were performed on this stage-like rock as an offering to Yayama Gongen in hopes of abundant harvest, the safety of one’s family, and warding off sickness.
It is 63 ft (19.3 m) in height, 43 ft (13 m) in length, has a circumference of 188 ft (57.3 m), and an area of 2690 ft2 (250 m2), which is large enough for 152 tatami mats. It boasts the title of being the largest stone stage in Japan.
