大正2年（1913年）に耶馬渓鉄道として開業し、山国川に沿って延びるこの鉄道は、沿線に青の洞門、羅漢寺、守実温泉などの観光地を控え、多くの観光客が耶馬渓を訪れました。昭和50年（1975年）の全線廃止後、線路跡はサイクリングロードとなり現在も耶鉄の痕跡を辿ることができます。

The Yabakei Railway first began operation in Taisho 2 (1913). The tracks stretch alongside the Yamakuni River and pass famous sites such as Ao-no-Domon, Rakanji Temple, and the Morizane Hot Spring, bringing many tourists to Yabakei during those days.
After it closed down in Showa 50 (1975), the train tracks became cycling routes and still carry the traces of the old Yabakei Railway to this day.
