久大線のほぼ中間地にあり昭和9年の全線開通と同じ年に竣工されました。昭和12年に2両分増築し、熊本県小国とつなぐ宮原線の車両基地としても使われました。現存する扇型機関庫と転車台としては九州唯一の近代化産業遺産です。

This lies nearly at the middle of the Kyudai Line, and was built in Showa 9, the same year all lines became operational. Two more cars were built in Showa 12, and it also served as a railyard for the Miyanoharu Line that ran to Oguni in Kumamoto Prefecture. The surviving roundhouse and railway turntable are the only assets of Heritage of Industrial Modernization in Kyushu.
